Important Note!
After posting yesterday a post by MoveOn.org noted that Dawn, the person who’s website gave me the idea for the pill bottle drive, is doing so herself! That’s wonderful news because she is actually heading to Washington DC to talk to the insurance companies herself. That being the case I will be shipping all the bottles I get to her instead via overnight mail right before her trip.
This is all about solidarity after all, right?

Message in a Pill Bottle: Talk is cheap…
…but there are no cheap solutions any longer.
We need to stay on message but we can’t just talk. The message needs to be framed in a way those in charge will see. Something a little more substantial than pixels.
The health care debate is everywhere and every side has come down to its core values, be those fiscal responsibility, compassion for the sick or total obstructionism. Republicans and Democrats have their talking points, some good and bad on both sides, but the real fight is between the health care industry and the people it purports to serve. Now let’s be fair, by ‘health care industry’ I mean insurance companies and their subsidiaries. Hospitals, clinics, doctors, nurses and medical aides of every professional stripe are doing the best they can with a flawed system.
I want to help. I desperately want to do my part. After seeing Dawn’s story and reading her blog at length, a blog you can find at http://www.itcouldhappentoanyone.com/ , an image on her home page gave me an idea. It’s something so silly it just might make a difference…
So this is what I want to do.
I want everyone who reads this to get a piece of paper and write your thoughts on health care, for or against as long as they are YOUR thoughts. Then fold it up and put it in a pill bottle. Any pill bottle, over the counter or prescription. Please black out vital details on the label if it is prescription or remove the label altogether. Do this anonymously or leave your name. Names will have more impact but do what you are comfortable with; that’s all I am asking.
Then send it to me at the address below. When I’ve got enough for a mailing box I’ll ship it to the public relations head of CIGNA. If I get enough for two or more boxes I’ll ship to other companies. Humana’s second on my list.
They need to hear us. Maybe if we send out messages to them in the overpriced shells of Big Pharma they’ll take notice.
